Two Approaches to Dental Care

VitalWell offers both comprehensive in-clinic dentistry and non-anesthesia dental care. These services serve different purposes, and the best approach depends on your pet’s oral health and individual needs.

Integrative COHAT

Performed at our clinic under anesthesia, a COHAT allows us to evaluate and treat disease both above and below the gumline.

✓ Complete oral and periodontal assessment
✓ Full-mouth dental radiographs
✓ Cleaning above and below the gumline
✓ Subgingival ozone treatment
✓ Periodontal treatment
✓ Extractions when needed
✓ PRP, bone grafting & PerioVive
✓ Post-extraction radiographs

Non-Anesthesia Dental Care

For carefully selected dogs and cats, non-anesthesia dental care provides another option for maintaining oral hygiene without general anesthesia.

✓ No general anesthesia
✓ Dental cleaning for appropriate patients
✓ Helps manage plaque and tartar accumulation
✓ Useful for ongoing oral-health maintenance
✓ Individual patient evaluation
✓ Available through scheduled dental events

Non-anesthesia dental care does not replace a COHAT when dental radiographs, treatment below the gumline, extractions, or other advanced dental treatment is needed. Our team helps determine which approach best fits your pet’s current oral-health needs.

Comprehensive Dentistry with an Integrative Approach

Oral health is an important part of your pet’s overall health and comfort. At VitalWell Holistic Veterinary Center, we take a comprehensive approach to dentistry that addresses dental disease while considering the health of the whole patient.

Our dental services range from preventive and non-anesthesia dental care to an Integrative COHAT — Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment performed at our clinic.

The Integrative COHAT Process

Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment

A COHAT allows us to thoroughly evaluate and treat your pet’s entire mouth, including disease hidden beneath the gumline. At VitalWell, our integrative approach goes beyond the teeth and gums to consider oral health in the context of the whole patient.

1. Pre-Dental Evaluation

Physical examination, medical history review, pre-anesthetic screening, and individualized planning.

2. Anesthesia & Monitoring

Individualized anesthesia, advanced patient monitoring, pain management, and attentive supportive care.

3. Assessment & Diagnostics

Complete oral and periodontal assessment with full-mouth dental radiographs to evaluate the teeth, roots, and supporting bone.

4. Advanced Review

Dental radiographs can be submitted to a board-certified veterinary dentist for in-depth review and treatment planning for complex cases.

5. Treatment

Cleaning and polishing, periodontal treatment, subgingival ozone, PerioVive, extractions, bone grafting, and PRP based on dental findings.

6. Recovery & Ongoing Care

Post-extraction radiographs, recovery support, home-care guidance, rechecks, and long-term periodontal maintenance.

More Than Just Teeth

Oral health is closely connected to whole-body health. Dental disease can both influence and reflect what is happening elsewhere in the body. During the COHAT process, we consider factors that can affect oral health, healing, anesthesia, and long-term wellness.

Nutrition
Gut & Microbiome Health
Inflammation
Metabolic Health
Diabetes & Pancreatitis
Cardiovascular Health
Immune Health

When these connections are relevant, we can integrate dental care with VitalWell’s nutrition, functional medicine, advanced diagnostics, and preventive care services to support the whole patient—not just the mouth.

Advanced Dental Radiology & Specialist Collaboration

Dental radiographs reveal disease beneath the gumline that cannot be fully evaluated during a visual examination alone. They allow us to assess tooth roots, surrounding bone, periodontal disease, and other important structures before developing the treatment plan.

For complex cases, VitalWell can submit dental radiographs to a board-certified veterinary dentist for advanced interpretation and treatment-planning consultation. This gives us another level of expertise when determining the best approach for challenging dental disease.

Healthy Mouth. Healthier Patient.

Whether your pet needs routine dental maintenance, a comprehensive COHAT, or evaluation of more advanced dental disease, our goal is to provide thoughtful dental care that supports comfort, function, and whole-body health.
